I've got my phone pretty well to a place where I'm happy with it, so I'll write what I did in case anyone wants to replicate it.
(If you're reading this in the future, things might change and what I did might not be useable anymore, so make sure to read up on jailbreaking community forums before you do anything).
Since the phone is on 15.8.4, I jailbroke it with Dopamine as I was told to do by some guy on reddit some months ago.
I don't have much use for jailbreaking but I like to be able to control my interface a little better.
I'm using Glasklart via Snowboard. Though I have all the extensions installed, still somehow the transparent icon backgrounds aren't working for me. I gather that maybe this is a glitch, since I read that it's a known glitch on IOS 14.
Nonetheless, it still looks very nice and minimalistic without the backgrounds, you really can't go wrong with Glasklart.
Finally I'm using the FloatingDockXVI tweak to remove the dock background for a clean home screen look. (I hate the dock background with a passion, it looks so bad on all iPhones.)
