*+. Ray's Guide To Gal EyeMake! .+*

 Hello Everyone!

It's been a while but I'm back with another big informational blog for you all today. Today I'd like to walk y'all through the general goals and concepts behind gyaru eye makeup (according to me). I won't tell you what specifically to do, because there's a million ways to do gal makeup, I'm just going to tell you what you're trying to achieve with your makeup. As with absolutely everything in life, there are exceptions to the rule, but you need to know the rule to be an exception, so please don't bother complaining to me about how gyaru is a state-of-mind.

General Goals

In general, for gyaru, you're going to be trying to achieve what I call a "Butterfly" silhouette (or a < shape) with your eyes and eyebrows.  When you look at pictures of gyaru, notice how their eyemake almost always creates this shape. The eye drags downward while the brow snatches out or upward. This is a large part of what makes your makeup identifiably gyaru, and why you might feel like your make isn't working if you haven't shaped your eyebrows. You also want to load on the eyeshadows to make a fluffy sultry impression.

Otherwise, generally gal eyemakeup is going to be enlarging and lifting.

Eyeline Goals

For eyeliner, the main goals for the top are to pull the eye downward at the outer half and lift the eye upward at the top. For the bottom, you want to create a kind of "eye smile". Any kind of wing, droop, liner, or lack thereof should be done in a way that can work toward this general shape.

Undereye Goals

Elaborating on the "eye smile" point, almost all gal make has the inner half if the undereye closed up, with the outer half opened to pull the entire eye shape downward on the outside half. You want to try to make your inner half as straight a line as possible. DON'T make your entire undereye a droop

Inner Corner Goals

The inner corner should always have some amount of attention paid to it, it should not be left untouched. At the very least, lining the waterline (yes, top and bottom) should be done, but an inner corner line is very common and helps the shape translate. You'll just have to experiment to find the best way to do the inner corner on your own eyes.

Eyebrow Goals

Shaping your brows is NECESSARY, no budging. There's many ways to do your brows that flatter a gal eye, but you HAVE to do them. The two most common shapes for gal are what I call "Roach Brows" and "Sad Brows".

- Roach brows- an angry shape, with a thicker body and a thin tail (that looks like a roach leg)

- Sad brows- a very straight medium thickness brow that gives a sad or worried impression to the face.

It's important to keep in mind what sort of style you're doing and what kind if eyebrow will compliment it. (usually roach brow is better for cool styles and sad brow is better for sweet or mature styles).
Brows usually connect into the nose contour and start closer to the nose bridge than you think they should.

Eyelash Goals

Eyelashes suitable for gal should be segmented or thin, so that the makeup and eye anatomy underneath isn't covered up by the lash. It should be long enough to extend past the eye onto the droop or wing, and should have a rounded shape, not flat shape. Otherwise, go wild and find what lashes you like the best.

(bottom lashes)

I'll be blunt: don't bother trying to make a fluffy lash like this work.

You want to curl your lashes at the inner half pretty heavily to create the lifting effect of your eye shape.

Experimentation

The best way to experiment is to pick one gal, one pic, and copy it exactly as its done in the photo. Every detail. If you can find a tutorial for that look, even better!
Sei has some really good examples of this on her blog!

It's very good to experiment so you can find the best ways to make your unique face distinctly gal.

That's all for today. I really hope this was helpful and made sense to someone out there. I can do another post in the future about face makeup and perhaps hair if y'all want, please let me know.

Bye for Now.

  1. I loved all the explanations you gave here! I agree that the fluffy lashes need to be left out it's literally too much work to make them gal and it's frustrating to see people gravitate towards them anyways 🤪 Thanks for the shoutout 🥰🥰🥰
